it's a story told by Plato. Atlantis is said to have been home to an advanced civilization (maybe aliens) who got to big for their boots (tried to take over the world, and got punished by the gods which caused them to disapear)
Over the centuries, people have tried to find Atlantis, using Plato's descriptions, but no luck

Atlantis was known to be an ancient yet advanced civilization back in the times of Greek philosophers. But it sank under the ocean mysteriously thousands of years ago. Now it is believed that there is the possibility that Atlantis is now an underwater city. The island continent was thought to be somewhere in the Atlantic ocean. The ocean was named after Atlantis. Go figure.

information on Atlantis is sketchy at astounding. What all of us comprehend comes right down to us from Plato... who stated an Egyptian (supposedly survivor) named some thing like Seith (inspite of... do not shop in ideas his call). except that, a tremendous variety of present day conjecture helps a civilisation that become contained in the area of the tremendous volcano Thera, and that Atlantis ought to were suitable (finally) to the Mycenaeans. 2 opportunities are at the moment valuable. One, Atlantis become destroyed at the same time as Thera erupted (the caldera now varieties the islands off the coast of Greece). And 2, the civilisation become destroyed at the same time as the Bosporus flooded into the Black Sea. Submarines have stumbled on information of habitation contained in the depths of those waters, and this may (in reality) also tie in with the Flood delusion that pervades many, many cultures. The "Atlantis off the coast of Florida" delusion is rather a lot unproven, and is tied in with the Bermuda Triangle. A e book in conserving with this fringe of the parable is one with the aid of Charles Berlitz (i imagine that become his call).

Hey there,
I am gonna give a small essay on what I have in mind.... I hope it is not that bad, but enjoy
For centuries, Atlantis has been one of the western world's favorite legends, a tantalizing blend of fantasy and mystery. Stories tell of a rich and glorious empire that was lost to the sea—where some hope its ruins still lie, waiting to be discovered.
Thera (Santorini)
The island of Thera
A Lost Paradise
Most of the information we have about Atlantis comes from the ancient Greek philosopher Plato. He says that Atlantis lay west of the Pillars of Hercules (rock formations at the Straits of Gibraltar), in the Atlantic Ocean. On this huge island was a "great and wonderful empire" where brave, virtuous people lived in a kind of paradise.
But this peaceful existence came to an end when the people of Atlantis began to love power more than they loved the gods. They waged war against the rest of the world, but were ultimately defeated by the wise and moral Athenians. Then, some 9,000 years before Plato's own time, or around 9,500 B.C.E., earthquakes sunk Atlantis into the sea.
In Search of Atlantis
There is no proof that Atlantis ever existed. Many people believe that Atlantis was just a legend, told by Plato to praise the values Athenian society held dear. But others believe that the storied island was based in fact. Some have argued that Atlantis was in the Americas, or in the Canary Islands, or in Antarctica. Others think Atlantis was in fact the Greek island of Thera—a theory fed by recent archaeological discoveries.
Thera (Santorini)
The Thera Theory
In the late 1960s Professor Spyridon Marinatos discovered the remains of a Bronze Age city near Akrotiri, on the island of Thera (Santorini). The city's streets, buildings, pottery, and colorful wall paintings prove that it was a wealthy society much like the Minoan civilization of nearby Crete. But around 1500 B.C.E., a devastating volcanic eruption—far greater than the one that covered Pompeii—buried the city under 15 feet of ash.
Was Thera the land of Atlantis? Some believe that Plato was indeed describing Thera, but that he was wrong about its location and the date of its destruction—or that translations of his writings have been misunderstood. If Plato did not completely make up the story of Atlantis, it probably has its origins in ancient Egyptian records that told of the events at Thera.
Atlantis Tours Unlimited
It is easy to understand the desire to find archaeological proof of Atlantis. Who wouldn't want to be able to visit the remains of paradise on Earth? Today, the Atlantis legend helps bring tourists to Thera by the boatload. Visitors enjoy black sand beaches, archaeological sites, and dramatic volcanic cliffs. And the weary can rest their feet at the Hotel Atlantis.
This is but the begining of the studies and here I stand still looking for the path to the lost city, I seek till it finds me
Kind Regards

Plato mentioned it in some of his "Dialogues". That is all there is to the tale, really. His prize pupil Aristotle says Plato invented the place for purposes of teaching a lesson, so it didn't really exist. The tale told by Plato disagrees with history, so Aristotle is surely correct. Later writers told more about Atlantis, but there is no basis for that. It is just another tale that has been embellished over time. Nostrodamus is another focus for fantasy writers who try to pass off fiction as fact to gullible people. They make money by writing books about nonsense, so their motives are obvious.

well there are many theories about atlantis. One is that it was sank by the gods. the other theory is more scientific. that a massive earthquake/tidalwave caused the island to "sink". it is said that aileins lived there or that they were just an island who discoverd advanced technology in their seuclusion. All stranded shipmates were allowed to live as members of the communtiy but anyone who desired to leave, left but was met by the atlantiean army. hope that i could help!
