I wouldn't mind if the services we paid for were decent, good transport, health care, schools etc, but in my neck of the woods (i.e. North London) they're at best mediocre.
-
I frequently correspond with my local MP, I vote at all elections, I often go to rallys and demos when I feel things are injust, but whilst doing that I think 2/3 of this country just doesn't give a s**t and just accepts whatever's put its plate.
-
Why can't we take it upon ourselves, at least once in a while, to stick it to policy makers, institutions and corporations and say no we're not going to accept 3 quid for a zone one ticket or no I'm not going to wait 6 months for my operation...you nkow take a piece of the old French spirit and have some bloody back bone!

I thoroughly agree with your sentiment. What buggers it up most of the time 'though is that people just don't care - they just sit back and take it. They won't support you if there's an easier way - - - I've tried my bit to stop this site from becoming an institution for the mentally impaired, but instead of getting some support, all I get is stupid replies (with only very few exceptions which shine through like a ray of sunshine in a sea of mud) or told to 'get a life', whatever that's supposed to mean, so after a while, you become apathetic and give up due to a lack of interest on the part of the majority.
The consequence is that unless you've got a great deal of clout and even more cash to spare, the head will become sore because the wall is even harder, and you just give up. I've tried, and failed, so let them suffer!

you are right in everthing you say except for the french backbone
I live in the north and our waiting lists for nhs treatment is far longer for a simple local operation on removing a small cyst it took over two years if i had gone private 22 days performed by the same doctor. i pay my taxes , i have worked all of my life i dont begrudge paying a fair tax but for those taxes i require a level of sevice that is commensurate with the cost. i do not have the zone parking but we dont have a bus everyday through the village only on wenesdays, no car and you are stuck, yet i read in my community charge leaflet that a fair proportion of my tax is going towards transport, that we do not have.regards LF

Apathy, and because we have never had a revolution! Also the British Class system! Also the election system is rigged in favour of the party in power, Proportional Representation is the way to go, but what a surprise the two main parties don't want it!

As a transplanted Brit (I live in Canada now), I often ask myself the same question. Why don't the British revolt more about oppressive taxes and prices? I guess were all just too polite. It's in the genes, I think.

i do no longer advise to sound harsh or something yet why could you opt to stay in South Korea in case you don't be conscious of something approximately it? do you be conscious of any rules there? money? Language? artwork? it somewhat is historic previous? residing there wont be somewhat ordinary in case you don't be conscious of something approximately Seoul. Why do no longer you reside in Manila once you're a proud filipina? maximum folk such as you in hassle-free terms decide directly to circulate there because of the fact of it somewhat is pop subculture.

Don't forget my friend.....
You have to feed an Army who fights for "Freedom and Democracy" at many parts of the world.
These things cost a lot and someone has to pay for this....

yeah, i often wonder this myself, people are comfy and too apathetic to shake things up. we take our cushy lifes for granted and like robots allow men in suits to decide how our life is.
