Buddha never believed in God or religions. Especially, he wanted to go away from the high and brainy teachings of the most of religious preachers. His was original idea of coming back after his death to the earth. What he meant was there would be many more knowledgable people likle him (Buddha means knowledge) to come and teach about there being no god.

Oh Buddha! you did not know how your followers would interprete simple messages to control the religions throughout the world!!

You question is???? You didn't ask if Lord Buddha was God, but I assume that is your meaning. He was a teacher, and he set paths for us to follow to reach enlightenment...We strive only to follow his path to reach a state of purification and thus enter Nirvana.
