Well, I'm pretty sure I can tell you from experience I had four of them. My first one I was scared to death and I was young but the nurse made it worse by saying O.K don't move because if you do you'll become parolized so I wasn't to thrill to here that, but it wasn't that bad. My second time around was o.k to but my third time for some reason he made it hurt and all I could do was curse like a sailor, my husband said I was so loud he could here me out in the waiting room, and finally my last one I thought he was still getting ready to insert it and I asked how much longer he turned around and said what are you talking about you had it in for the last five minutes. He was really good. So I really think it depends on the person doing the epidural just like it depends when you go get blood out how the nurse is . Some are really great that you don't even feel it and some you really feel it and plus they leave a bruise. So Good luck and try not to worry about it and just think of the reward you'll receive after this needle, it's better than a lollipop.

I had an epidural with my son and the pain was so bad from the labor that I was falling asleep in between contractions that when they finally did give me the epidural I was in between contractions(which were a minute apart) I slept right throught the epidural so I didn't feel anything. I had a spinal with my daughter and that didn't hurt at all either. Everybody deals with pain different but I hate needles in fact I used to run out of the doctors office when they mentioned that I needed one!!LOL but honestly it does not hurt at all!! Good Luck

It's not as bad as some people make it out to be. I have had an epidural during labor with both of my children. It feels like a bee sting for about 5 seconds and the next thing you know, you are numb below your waist(this may vary by different case). I think it is well worth the 5 seconds of pain. Good Luck

I have no children yet. However, most people I talk to who have had the epidural done did say it pinched/hurt. Especially leaning over trying to be still while having a contraction too.
As for me, I won't have one. I have been told a few stories from a few close friends/relatives that it made them not be able to feel their legs, not able to feel when to push and some back problems later on. Not all was bothered by it. They felt good. I rather not take the risk. I will panic and feel too uncomfortable. That is just me. I am not afraid of needles. However, I shiver just thinking about an epidural of the effects.

sounds great, but I had my 3 naturally no meds no nothing. I couldn't see having any meds in my body when i gave birth, i wanted to be in the right state of mind and not sleepy due to drugs, the size of that needle i made my mind up when i seen that nothing could hurt bad enough to have that big needle stuck in my spine. To many bad things can happen not saying that they will but it happens, good luck to you.

The injection itself isn't painfull but there is a risk being that its around your spine. You must stay completely still while you are given the injection. It numbs the pain all of it .I had one with my second child and after birth I couldn't feel my legs for a while. It was scary but the feeling came back soon enough.

If it hurts, your anesthesiologist didn't do it right. The way mine did it, it didn't hurt at all. They numb the entire area before they insert it. You do feel a little pop after they intsert it as the needle goes through a ligament. It's just a little pressure, and it kind of tickles in a weird way, but it doesn't hurt. In fact, it's WONDERFUL! :o) I wish I could have one every time I get cramps, hehehe.
Congratulations, and best wishes for your new little one!

I have had two epidurals as I had to have emergency caesareans. I have a huge fear of needles but as you cant see it that made it a bit easier. As long as you relax and do as the anaethitist tells you it will be fine.
Lots of love and good luck.

It only hurts for 1 second but its a total relief and you should totally get one. An epideral was a godscend on june 24th when i had my baby. It hurt alot less then the painful contractions i was having. So yea, it hurts but only for a really short while and then after it kicks in, its like your floating on clouds. lol
