i will tell u the reason. imaging a spider spinning its web.it has many edges and nodes
similarly all the computers are connected in the world through the internet and so it gets the name world wide web.it is just a notation for naming a particular site.its changing now as you can see something like "http://in.answers.yahoo.com" etc.,
