1970 FIFA World Cup finals was the first time yellow & red cards was introduced in a major football tournament. there was no explusions in the entire tournament.

Carlos Caszely of CHILE becomes the first person to be red carded in a competitive football match when he received his marching order in the 67th minute by referee Dogan Babacan from TURKEY during the 1974 FIFA World Cup 1st round Group 1 match between WEST GERMANY & CHILE on 14 June 1974. the match was held at Olympiastadion in Berlin, Germany.
