It's such a loaded and also a personal question. I like a variety of songs from very different artists/groups, from Johnny Cash to the Sugerbabes, and can't pin myself down to a particular group/artist (some Johnny Cash and Sugarbabes songs I think are crap). When I'm asked this I really feel put on the spot, and that an instant judgement will be made about me whatever I say.

I feel the same way. I just tell them I a mixture. Most people don't get the hint and start asking for specific bands! I guess I take music a little too seriously. I just don't want to tell anyone "I like so and so." just to hear them say "Ugh, they're awful."

There is music that is tied to categories i like that just sucks in my opinion. The answer isn't simple anymore so i say i like a little bit of everything. But i mostly hate rap and country, it all sounds the same.

I like being asked the question if I feel the person who is asking really wants to know. And will listen to my answer.

If the question is just "for chatty" reasons, I really dislike it too.

Just do what I do. When someone asks you that, you then answer them with a personal question of your own, like "So, what's the lenth of your penis" or "when's the last time you and your spouse had sex", just to give them a taste of their own medicine. I bet they won't ever ask you anything ever again.

Mmmm I agree, My taste are so wide it would be impossible for me to sum it up in a few words. It pisses me off as it puts me on the spot and makes me plug my brain in, something I detest doing.

I uess that could be easily seen as a loaded question...on the other hand, it's not as bad as someone asking you,"Do you know how to sing?"..or,"Do you like rap/fried chicken?"..I've gotten all three of those.
