In order to access resources across a work-group, there needs to be an authorized user account residing on each of the computers that needs access to the server. Unlike domains, work-groups don't have a centralized point to authorize users.

For example user bob needs to have the same account name and password on both the client and the server to gain authorization.

Then verify that you ping the server via command line, you may have to disable any firewalls that would prevent the pinging to properly work.

After this, on the server you share your resources and reference them to the appropriate users.

Then you can try to connect to the server through run
\\IP or \\ComputerName

first of all the questions is if the computers can see or reach each other on the network, first open a comman prompt (hit the start button and click on 'run') next type in 'ping computer_ip' computer_ip has of course to be replaced by an ip of another computer on the network, test this for all computers on the lan, also it would advisable if possible to have all computers in the same ip range, for a home network usually the 192.168.0.X is adivsable, ok if the computers can ping each other that's already very good, if not and they r all in same range and workgroup, then deactivate all the firewalls on all the computers and try again, preferably u should also have a username and a password for each computer, u have to have shares on each computer or at least some folders u share, then u can try to search for ur computer, click on start again then on search and search for computers, u can search for the computername or the IP, try both approaches, once it finds another computer u can double click on it and it will query u for a username and passwordif u set it up that way, u type it in et voila u can c the share... if this all not working take a look at http://www.experts-exchange.com/Networking/Q_21010475.html

Also, you should consider the possibilty that your wirless network may be disabling communication between the computers. I don't know if you have a wirless network or not, but most people tend to forget that the wirless network will do this by default (most of the time).
