A most dangerous idea is trusting our government and elected officials... we all do it... all the time! We entrust them with the limited powers to represent out best interest and they turn around and help themselves to a life of luxury, comfort and priviledte... they betray our trust and sell out to special interests and we still elect them over and over again... not out of forgiveness, but out of stupid party ideologies (those that vote along party lines). They accept favors in return for helping the wealthy get wealthier... (yes, free rides on private jets, free use of yatchs, hotel suites, fancy-swanky dinners... hey is that what we elected them into office for? WHY don't we hold them accountable for their actions (or lack thereof) and they're litany of false promises? How come they won't pass a law that makes it illegal under punishment of encarceration to lie on the airwaves...? Cheating, thieving, lying elected officials should be punished with greater severity than the average citizen; the fact that we do NOT do so is one of the greatest errors we make.
Oil shortages...? How come with any excuse that comes along there's always an oil shortage that causes the oil and gas prices to go up... and they post RECORD profits to boot! Hey, someone wake up... if there's a shortage of oil, how can they post greater profit margins? What's wrong with this picture?
Well, now we're being herded around like cattle under the guise of "treat of terrorism..." because some people weren't doing their jobs. Look at what happened during Katrina in Louisiana, for example... the whole world knew what was going on but OUR own elected officials (including the President who's had more vacation time than the last three Presidents combined, I think) claim they were notified (and we have proof that once again that sneaky weasle was lying AGAIN), as if he doesn't have access to a telephone, a radio or a TV? We all know he's an idiot but to TALK like an idiot and think we believe him is worse than I imagined. No wonder people all over the world laugh at Americans... look at what we elected for President!
Look at the plight of our elderly, our infirmed, our disabled, our poor... they live in substandard housing conditions... we have people starving here in American, and we have people who are mal-nutritioned... while our politicians concern themselves with prancing around in front of cameras showing off their wardrobes... going to fancy cocktail parties, galas... having free dinners paid by the very wealthy in return for favors... while people here in America don't have adequate meals or enough to eat... or eating junkfood!
Yes, believing that the government is out to protect our rights, liberties and freedoms is indeed dangerous... they would LIMIT our Constitutional rights, freedoms and liberties... and once we give them away, no matter how miniscule the amount we surrender, we will never get them back again. Too many Americans have shed blood for us to enjoy these rights, freedoms and liberties...! There's no guarantee of safey in any democracy... and as good ol' Ben Franklin said that anyone who would surrender a small part of his freedom in return for safety doesn't deserve freedom! They lie to us. They spy on us. They try to censor us. They are trying to usurp too much power and they're using our fears as the weapons to pursuade us to voluntarily give up our rights, liberties and freedoms... so they can have an easier job? Or... to have more control over us!!!?
Sheesh! Shades of McCarthyism...! Has anyone read Orwell's "1984" or "Animal Farm" lately? See any parallelisms or similarities?
Another mistake is to believe that we live in a democratic republic. We live in a PLUTOCRATIC republic... all elected officials lie and cheat and help themselves... yes, the government is controlled by the rich for the rich... wake up! They use machiavellian ploys to shamelessly achieve their goals and we don't even question them...! WE are the majority... how come we don't have a greater voice in "our" own government?
Yes, yet another mistake is to believe that we can trust the government to protect us...! And who'd going to protect us from the government, the police and federal employees who are encrouching on our freedoms, liberties and our rights...? That is the very worst mistake we're all making.
(Pardon my rant. But it feels good to get that off my chest)

How about...
Discrimination is actually a good thing.
Or...
It is immoral to waffle on about morality.
Or...
Monogamy is not natural for humans.
Or...
The strong owe the weak nothing.
Or...
The entire concept that all people deserve equality is a joke. Women are not equal to men. The old and the infirm are not equal to the young and the fit. The incapable are not equal to the capable. The stupid are not equal to the intelligent. The uneducated are not equal to the educated. So why should everybody have equal rights in a world where, clearly, not everybody deserves them?
Or...
If capital punishment is another name for the state sanctioned execution of the guilty, abortion is another name for the state sanctioned execution of the innocent.
Or...
Women who breast feed in public should be arrested for indecent exposure.
Or...
Car drivers who criticise smokers are the biggest hypocrites on the planet.
Or...
The only difference between an evolutionist and a religious person is the direction they took when they made their own personal leap of faith...
And much more besides :oP

An idea is never dangerous. It is the action of implementing an idea that is dangerous. Because people never really ponders fully on an idea. As soon as they have somewhat of an idea, they will proceed to implement it thinking they have a great idea. But ideas, if you can appreciate it, can never be fully understood. There are just too many other factors affecting an idea. Hence it is acting on an idea from an incomplete understanding of it that is truly dangerous.

somethng challenging the bigger better and more dominant ideas, the common opinion. that common opinion can be from the government, a religion, a dictatorship, or just in general or peoples morals or social ideas. i guess dangerous ideas can be dangerous, or simply normal, depending on the context its in. Like the idea that the death penalty is bad would be dangerous in certian US states, but not in an Amnesty International group meeting...Or the idea that female circumcision should be practiced is considered dangerous in western societies, but not in Maasea society or other african tribes.

a dangerous idea or thought can be understood in different ways depending on the culture, class, type etc etc. of a person. for most people, a dangerous idea would be is something that could harm others. well for me a dangerous idea is something that could disrupt the thought of how man can live to the idea that life itself is just a thought.

Keeping the idea of forcibly taking over the government so you could correct all the wrong youve seen is dangerous. It will drive you nuts because it wont be possible and you get frustrated while continuously watching all those wrong things with the government!

Back in the day, it was dangerous to tell people that the earth was not flat. You were declared a heretic and imprisoned or burned at the stake.
Nowadays, if you question Christian dogma or creationism, you live a dangerous life. It's hard to rid ourselves of obsolete genes.
