Yes, medical transcription is certainly a viable career that can be done from home, especially if you live an area larger areas with lots of doctor's offices.
Also, I used to live next door to a woman who typed court transcripts. The tapes were delivered to her by courier every evening about 5:30pm and she would type all day while her children were in school. The county even furnished the computer. She did this for at least ten years.
I have also known a person who was a full time ebay salesperson. ebay is so overloaded now its a wonder anybody sells anything. The chances of your item being seen are pretty low now.
If you like selling, scrapbooking is hot right now. You hold classes and sell the product, like tupperware.
Catering from home is also something that can be done.
Good Luck!

From what I've heard, medical transcription at home is overhyped and isn't really all that viable as an income source, unless you have the connections with medical professionals to give you a client base.
You might start by thinking about what type of work you did in the office, and ask yourself whether companies might want to outsource that type of work. You could start by offering your services to the company you worked for and then build from there.
The easiest business to start from home is, of course, selling on EBay. Once you've chosen a product or products and figured out how to acquire them, you can start small and scale your business up or down depending on how things go.

With a computer at home and internet connection, you can start earning from home, without any investment. You should choose your work at home job according to your skills and time available.
If you have a good typing speed, general and legal transcription jobs from companies like Mountain West, Tigerfish and Accutran are available. Some of these companies do not require any experience.
You can apply directly from their websites which are listed at

Medical transcription work at home is also available if you have completed a course and have relevant experience.

This is for people that are serious and who don’t want to be misled as we have tried many things and have found a company that has been around for 21 Years and pays you to advertise for them. My wife and I just started and are doing well. It is not an MLM company and no selling, no deliveries or stocking product. My wife’s aunt has been working with this Company (Melaleuca) for a little over 3 years and home schools 3 kids and makes $9,000 a month. It is a 500 Inc company and the CEO is on the U.S. Chamber of commerce board. I can arrange a web cast with my wife’s aunt for you and you can decide by yourself and WE WILL help you be successful. It is an honest Win Win.
If you want to see a web cast (presentation) from your home let me know and I will arrange it as that truly is the way to see all about Melaleuca. Have you heard of it. We have just gotten started with my wife's aunts help as it is a team effort and it is fun. Just a quick F.Y.I. 8 out of 10 people that see the web cast join the company and 95% of the people that join re-order product each and every month. Let me know when you are ready and we will set up the web cast.

Thanks,
Rich & Teresa

Check out The Purple Hippo. http://www.purplehippoparties.com/aparisi Since you already have a child, then you know just how expensive parties can be. Why not get paid to help other people plan their parties (plus you get a discount if you are buying for yourself)?
Good luck!

Hmm... a therapist, an artist, a music teacher.... these things can be done at home. Art is lonely, perhaps, and the pay is low low low... unless you really rock!
If you are rich, try omaisa.com and be a peacemaker. You can do website development?
