I always hear this hype about how awesome mustangs are but today I watched a new GT get dusted by a Chrysler 300c by ALOT.
I know the guy in the 300 from work and he only has a K&N. Not sure what the GT had if anything. I'm not bashing Ford as I drive an 02' lightning, but know even the last gen camaros and T/As are STILL faster than the new GTs. So why the hype if they aren't that fast?

GTs weren't supercharged the Cobra was, and the cobra was made as an answer to the corvette..and its still about as fast as the last gen camaro.

I've been saying this for years... I was beginning to think I was the only one who realized it.
Mustangs, for whatever reason, are percieved to be fast cars by the general public, perhaps its how they look or due to good marketing on Ford's behalf, yet they were rarely fast cars but they still sold well even when they have been taking a$$ whoopings from GM f-bodies since 1994.

They are not overrated. what engine did the GT have. I guarantee the GT he raced wasn't the supercharged version. I drive a 94 Lightning that I bought new and it's pretty Quick,but there is a lot of the new ones I can't keep up with.

Well first off they are somewhat heavy... and the 300 probably had a hemi which are pretty nice.... Saleen mustangs though would blow any average car off the road. SC baby! all the way. Plus Saleen mustangs aren't really mustangs, the just have the name, body and chasis. Steve Saleen is an American hero

Yes, I think they are overrated. Not only that but they are way too common. Every high school girl who knows nothing about cars wants a mustang, thinking it is the god of sports cars.

Their biggest appeal often hasn't been that they are the quickest thing out there - frequently they aren't. But it's usually that they are reasonably fast to start with and pretty easy to tweak to get them to go faster.
