take the parents out of the water first so incase they would eat the babies. then turn off the filter and take it out of water. {fish can survive 3 days without filter so remember}. then scoop the babies out of the water and using the same water place in a smaller container to be more safe. put back parents and filter. when the babies are old and big enough put them back in their tank. that should do it.

Penn-Plax makes a Net Breeder which fits right inside of your current tank which is a baby-saver. This way your babies receive the same water and air flow that is in your current tank, but stays isolated from the rest of the fish which may find the little ones a tasty snack. I currently have one in my tank because my tuxedo molly had babies. Unfortunately, I think I saw the babies too late and they all got eaten except for one. But that little one is happy now in his little Net Breeder and when he's big enough to not be eaten by the others, he'll get released into the general population. In the meantime, you can get a little piece of a pantyhose and elastic tie it around the filter so the little ones won't get sucked up in it. There are other brands of baby-savers, I am sure, but definitely get one. Good luck with your new additions!

I asked our aquatics shop the same question the first time our Platys gave birth, they advised us to leave them alone. We did just that and now we have LOADS of Marigold Platys, sometimes I wonder if they are rabbits rather than fish! I believe you can get a little separator thing that you could put the baby's in but you have to catch the darn things! Do you have natural plants in your tank? We have quite a few in ours and that where the baby's tend to hide until they are big enough not to be eaten. They will eat scraps of the food you put into the tank so you don't need special food for them.
Aren't they really cute when they're little though! I'd advise getting some plants for them to hide in.

My mother made a wire frame and the put the leg of ruined pantyhose over it. It went all the way to the bottom and the top was above the water. She would put her baby fish in it. The pantyhose kept them out of the filter and the other fish from eating them. It was about 3 or 4 inches square which was plenty of room for small babies.

They are probably going in the filter to hide from the larger fish. Get lots of plants (or plastic plants) so that they can hide in the tank. This worked for my Mollys and I have had a stable poulation for over 5 years.

keep the mother in a separate tank until she has babies then put her back in to the main tank. keep the babies in the breeding tank until there about 1cm+ in size. to start with feed them on a couple of drops of baby food(for fish)a day for about a month then you can try a fish flake crushed up to see if they will eat that. when they start eating flakes they will grow quickly.instead of buying baby fish food try boiling an egg, when hard boiled remove the yolk and put a piece about a cm in size into a glass ,then add a tea spoon of water and stir until it turns in to a runny type yolk. if you keep it in the fridge it should last you a wk before you need to make another batch up.

just separate the baby fish from the old ones because thats the reason why they will be eaten. believe it or not some mothers will also eat them. so better separate them and dont forget to feed them regularly. but dont let them eat too much.. its also not good for the fishes..=) okey? goodluck with them..

You have to put the mother when still pregnant in a breeder when ready take out the mother but leave the babies in the breeder till they are big enough to fend for themselves.
