I know you have to be an apprentice in a tattoo shop for quite some time, and obviously you have to be good at tattooing..but how do you actually learn how to tattoo, or where can you learn? What else does it take to become one?

When I inquired about a tattoo apprenticeship, they said you learn by testing out designs on yourself. A web search revealed similar info from other places. Often you spend the first couple of years just sweeping up around the shop and running the register -- proving you're reliable and learning the business end of it.

Most states require special licensure to become a tattoo artist, usually tied into your apprenticeship program. If you decide you're dedicated to this path, good luck!
