I mean more specifically on the Internet. I've been trying to strike friendship with people around the world of both sexes, and of all ages but it seems my being 50 something turns most everybody off. What's wrong with being old?

Nothing wrong with being old, we're all going to be in that boat some day and we should all remember that just because some one is 40-50-60 it doesn't make them any less a human, nor does it make them useless.
The best advise in life can and does come from older people. They've been there done that and can offer ideas that we wouldn't think of. They're excellent for getting a third party view of problems. And some can tell you stories that would knock your socks off.

in todays world, the importance and the wisdom of age has been undercut. You can always approach it the sameway i approach religion when making new friends. Just dont talk about it (your age that is), once the person you are trying to befriend see's you as a person instead of as a stereotype (an oldman, not thatt i think your old:P) then the age will no longer matter.

Nothing is wrong with it. If you think it is an issue, lie about your age. Say you are in your 20's if your sole purpose is to make friends.

Nothing wrong with being old.. Everybody of us will be old right! Dont be sad.. If somebody is teasing you because your old and his young, The time will come that he will be old alredy too.

old people get a bad rep from people who are old and turn up as pedifiles chatting with young people. so now people tend to stay away from that catagory. too bad.
