I think you got your facts all mixed up. We're not made of monkeys. We evolved from monkeys.. which means we are no longer monkeys, though we still have the resemblance of monkeys. Evolution is not disputable, the scientific community does not dispute the fact that we evolve. Evolution is called a theory, but that does not mean that noone is sure of it. If scientists were not sure of it, they would call it a "hypothesis". Go ahead, ask some scientists this question you will have 90% tell you this is so.

A gas from space.. I think you mean carbon. All living things are made from carbon. This is not disputable either. This is a fact. Our chemical compositions do defer in the sense that we have different DNA but what it comes down to is that all living things are made from carbon. Science has determined that we are all made from the same stuff. Isn't that amazing? This is a fact too.

You should not be afraid of science though. There are some christian scientists who believe that God played a role in making all of these facts possible. This makes much more sense.

Read this book:
The Language of God by Francis Collins

He's an evangelical Christian. I'm not sure your faith, but this may help you.

Here's a quick quote by him:
If God was creating humans afresh, Collins asked, "why would he insert a pseudo-gene that has lost its ability to do anything in the same place that it appears in a chimp?" Barring evolution, "you're forced to the conclusion that God was trying to mislead us and test our faith--and I have trouble with that kind of conjecture."

Darwin's theory of evolution, which has now become established science (meaning that people rely on it to make correct predictions) proposes that H. Sapiens is a descendant of an earlier species, whose other current-day descendants include chimpanzees and other apes. I highly recommend the reference cited below for a fascinating account of how all of this works.

As for the history of the earth, we know that the original material of the universe contained only hydrogen, helium, and lithium. All other elements are the result of thermonuclear processes in stars. These processes release energy by fusing lighter elements into heavier ones. But no element heavier than iron can be created in this way, because to make such elements requires that energy be added. When its store of lighter elements is exhausted, a star can no longer maintain its structure, and it collapses in a tremendous explosion resulting in enormous temperatures and pressures; these conditions create the elements heavier than iron, and the explosion scatters these elements throughout the surrounding space. All of the heavy elements on earth are necessarily the result of such a process.

There is much more to the story, and in the course of time you will read more about it.

Well, we started with the first fish that was able to survive on land. Then we were lucky enough for the dinosaurs to get wiped out, so that whatever little rodent like animals that lived could take over. Then eventually it got to monkeys, and then to us.

I think we are all stardust. But I think it's a brilliant suggestion. We are made of monkeys and we are some gas from space.I will use your phrase everyday just to remind myself of mankind's humble origins.
