I have read about ameritrade and others and it is scary the things people say about some of these companies, what are other choices available for independent investors? I am a beginner and wouldn't what to end up loosing at first time, what to learn before trying the real world, so where can I learn?

To practice investing you could use one of many stock simulators. Just type in 'stock simulator' in a search engine and youll get plenty of results. As for the real dead, I would definately reccomend socttrade. Trades cost only $7 compared to $10 for td ameritrade. Also the site is easy to browse and the tools are somehwhat helpful. Careful trading in the market though, I started about 2 years ago and it hasn't been so easy due to political instability. Best of luck investing, and you might as well take a look at MDRX.

I have used most of them, and my favorite is trade. I use them know and I found them to be the most user friendly. I also find some of the research tools extremely useful.

Since ameritrade was bought by TD waterhouse they have improved alot. So not matter which way you go I am sure you will be happy.

If you want to learn better, you might look into some of the online stock market games. They allow you to play with fake money and execute trades. I used it in college and I found it a good training tool.

I have used Ameritrade for at least three years and am completely satisfied. My friend uses Scotrade with equal results.
