People seem to have too many expectations for this holiday. They think since it's a "new" year, their problems will be solved, they will meet that perfect someone across the crowded room (who is probably hiding from a spouse and is drunk), and that tomorrow will be a bright shiny day.
What they don't do is look in the mirror to learn who is responsible for their miserable lives and work on fixing things from that angle.
Besides, any holiday that is seasoned with vast quantities of alcohol will cause melancholia when the shouting is over.

Poor planning. Start now to get the money together for an all inclusive new years at a hotel where no one has to drive and you have a place to sleep and eat. Lots of places offer those packages. Then carefully remember what happened last year and invite friends. Then don't drink to much.
