Bad, bad idea.
Don't give them anything before consulting with their pediatritian.
My mother is a nurse, and even she would ask.
I've grown up with this, and most bottles will warn you otherwise.
You're probably OK, but you should make sure. :D
Hope the baby gets better if it's sick!

interesting question. Some recent research has been done and there are a few pediatricians who are thinking that early antibiotic use in children under the age of 1 is bad and can lead to asthma in later years. Many pediatricians these days do not subscribe to the old ideas of over-antibiotic use because of the new strains of 'super-bugs' out there. The more antibiotic use there is in a person, the more tolerance a person has to new strains of old diseases. Consult with your pediatrician. If at all possible...and not life-threatening....just treat the symptoms of the infection with tylenol, etc.....instead of using antibiotics. I don't know if your child has a simple ear infection or a life threatening condition that would require antibiotics in order to save a person's life....so be wise and get a consult in person.

Any medication given to a child that age has to be regulated by the pediatrician. Another thing to consider is that antibiotics kill all bacteria........not just the bad.........so by giving them to a child you can in fact lower their immunity. My daughter suffered from repeated ear infections when she was a baby........starting at 6 weeks. The Dr kept repeating the antibiotics monthly. By the time she was a year old the specialist we took her to informed us that she had the same immune system as that of an AIDS patient.......which is little to none. It was all due to the antibiotics. The specialist informed me that simply changing the position I held her in when I let her have her bottle was all that was needed to stop the ear infections. I would suggest that whatever the reason the baby is needing these antibiotics, you research natural methods to avoid it in the future.....

Trust your pediatrician. If you child is sick ,and the doctor says the child needs it give it to the child as directed. My son had a staph infection when he was two weeks old. It looked like he had a hideous diaper rash. He was miserable. The antibiotics cured him. He may have died otherwise. Even an ear infection can get so bad that it can spread to the brain and cause encephalitis which can also cause death and or permanent brain damage. Don't take the risk. Listen to the Doctor; he/she is the professional.

It depends who you ask
Convential western medicine - yes, safe and relatively easily given
A natural medicine perspective - unless it is absolutely necessary i.e. lifesaving it is not suggested mainly because the flora of the baby is developing which can be crucial for the long term health of the person
That said, antibiotics probably saved my life when I was an infant! (spinal meningitis )

2 things to think and do.
- the child is too young for heavy medication
- speak to your GP for advise.
