...... in the Television commercials? Doesn't it serve the purpose of publicizing their opponents (Microsoft) too?

I think the commercials are successful. They have been able to show the apple is no longer the ying to the pc's yang. Apple is able to show that they can do everything a pc can do and put it into a simple user interface.

Apple is also bouncing success of the ipod down to the home computers. The ipod has been the biggest fashion icon of the past two years and Apple has done well in branding apple as the cutting edge and fashionable tech company.

Apple in my view has been on the cutting edge in not only product development but advertising as well. From there first commercial in the super bowl they have made bold statements through advertising. I hope they continue to be the Vanguard of technology.

I saw that commercial, it bugged me.
Did Microsoft not give them millions of dollars when they were in a rut (before the iPod and all that)?
I know it was to prevent a monopoly, but it's still no way to thank a company.
I personally found it distasteful, but that's just my 2 cents.
