Maybe having a life sentence which means life would go some way to stopping them. They wish to die for their cause, this makes them martyrs, if they were to be locked up for life, no possibility of release, with bare minimum bread and water maybe they'd think twice.
Of course first we'd need to get some order back into the prison service, and some more spaces to hold people

No. No-one has the "right" to take another person's life, regardless of what they have done. Also, if the culprit dead, they can't suffer remorse and regret, can they? I would advocate a life sentence, but, as another poster has commented, life should mean life, and not walk out after 15 years.
Also, if these people are prepared to kill themselves, presumably to ensure their entry into heaven, then allowing the death penalty will mean that they reach their goal; give them life imprisonment, and the time before they reach heaven will be extended, making their punishment even more of a hell on earth. Which would be preferable? Exactly.

I don't see the point; It would not act as a deterrent to someone so fanatical and misguided, in fact, it could be an added incentive, given the 'martyr complex' instilled by some religions. And how would you impose the the death penalty on a suicide bomber?
In terms of retribution and vengence, life imprisonment would seem a better punishement for someone who expects to go straight to paradise for their great sacrifice.

I think the death penalty should be brought back, period! I don't understand governments who took out the death penalty on the premise of humanitarian rights when innocents get killed by terrorists! Why should they be given any human rights when they don't even know how to respect other people's human rights?

Nobody will do anything. The silent minorities, those who defend the terrorists with their Christian beliefs and ideological ethos, they are the ones that politicians listen too, they make the rules for the silent majority. We are all racists, but only if we scream back in frustration at the murderers. People are not honest enough, and if they dare to say something in anger, those cheek turning, racist accusers burn him/her for having the audacity to shout back in anger. Remember the millions of Muslims dancing in the streets after the twin towers fell, I shall never forget their joy. The cheek turners forget and forgive every foul act, unless it is the act of frustrated majorities, wanting to find out if there are others as confused as they are by the cheek turning, left wing, libral, tree hugging, mud people. The noisy minority.

Although it may make some people feel 'better', I doubt it would deter any faction from continuing to terrorise. There is still the fear that an innocent person could be put to death for something they did not do; wrong place, at the wrong time scenario. That would mean the country - us as a whole - committing an equally bad crime.

I don't think that the death penalty would work as Muslim extremists are willing to die for their cause, Look at the 7/7 bombings they were all willing to die. No matter what the punishment you will never stop them they are all brain washed. I see it more as a cult that a religion.
