Here's my situation. I'm 17. I'm going to Holland for some time... and I want to go to a coffee shop. I'm only 17, and I hear that you have to be 18 years old to order some weed. Also, I hear that they "ID" you- as in, they check to see if you're over 18 or not. Do they do this BEFORE you're allowed to enter (ie, at the entrance?) or only when you try to order something?

I'm not too sure I can pass for being 18 years old, but like I said, I'm not too sure. Some people think I'm older... some think I'm younger (than 17...). I don't want to be kicked out because I'm not 18...

So what is it? Will they card me when I try to come in?- or when I try to order some "stuff?"

---

I don't need any stupid, anti-weed bias. I smoke it and it's not like I'll stop if you suggest me to...

Answer my question nicely and without any bias, and you'll get 10 points! (or my undying love...) :-p

Hi! The staff in Amsterdam coffeeshops are pretty weary of foreign stoners so well may card you (at the point of sale, not entering the premesis!). I mean, seeing as there are hundreds of them, and most of them have a takeaway counter, you could always try many of them - the worst they can say is no, right? Say please (alstublieft) and thanks (dank je wel) in Dutch, that ought to butter em up a bit too ;)
You say you're gonna be here for sometime. Are you going anywhere besides Amsterdam? I don't like many of the coffee shops there, too many neon lights, alien figurings ('take me to your dealer', har de har) and techno music. Here in Utrecht we have a boat thats a coffee shop, right opposite the prison :) I wonder if the escaped prisoners make it very far!!

Most coffee shops card you at the door, more eased once only when you order a bag or a pre-rolled., in fact they almost check everyone, except when you are crooked and grey, and they can tell them self you're not a minor anymore.
Coffeeshop owner get checked themselves alot and the police uses mystery guest to check them and if they don't ask an sell to a Minor they get huge fines. You can have beer here at 16 and stronger liquors at 18, so even for ordering a drink they will ask for ID, if they don't trust it. Police here is very strict on those laws.

Most coffeeshops are small affairs that don't have door staff - just one or two people behind the bar.

However, it's illegal for them to have underage people on the premises whether they're smoking or not, so they could ask you at any time for ID.

Having said that as long as you look old enough you'll certainly be able to get in somewhere. Even if you don't you can just get somebody to buy you some weed & then smoke it down the park.

they'll usually card you when you order something... there's not enough staff to man the door. I've been to coffeeshops were people were asked for id when ordering drinks (non alcoholic) from the waitress and depending on her mood that day they were either allowed to stay for the drinks of kicked out. So it's a crap shoot. You may better your chances if you hang with an older crowd.

I'm told that you only have to be 16 years old to get in the Coffee shops and order some good weed. Yes, they ask for your ID.

Depends from shop to shop... Just walk around and walk in like your nose is bleeding. In some they will ask you to go away, but you will sooner or later be lucky. It helps if you are with someone who is +18
