THE question about the arts.
In my experience, it comes to initiative. It's not just a matter of "following" your dreams. True, you need the drive to succeed, the need to dream big. And if you have that, you've already solved the hard part.
What you have to do is create your own good luck and success by working as hard as you can to be successful. Theater is not easy; just work at it. Over and over again. Because eventually, if you put enough blood, sweat, and tears into a dream, the dream will come true. It may change and lessen in its magnitude, but it will still be your dream.
Also, keep your options open. Don't root yourself in one plan; try and find different options and things you love. The more talented you are at many different things, the more likely you are to use them in the arts, particularly in acting.
At some point I think we all make a decision: to make theater our life, or make it a part of our life. Either choice is noble, but it is a choice, and you must make it in your life.
Me: I haven't made the choice yet. I still have time. But keep an open mind, and put your work and faith in the art, and the answer will come to you.

You should by all means go for it. Do what u love and what ur heart tells you. I had the same problem two years ago. I couldnt decide what I should go and study. In the end I just went with heart and studied drama. I graduated last year and still havent done much work but the feeling of knowing that u did what ur heart said is the best feeling ever. I'm not rich and I dont live a glamorous lifestyle yet, but the experience I got from my drama course is an experience no other accounting, business, or other student will ever know. People think that you just go and read and perform scenes. My darling, theres so much more to acting and performing. You learn more about yourself and life and others. You gain confidence that can help you in everyday life. You become stronger and you grow so much more as a person. I couldve become anything I wanted but I know thatt oneday I'll be happy coz I did acting for the love of it and not for money. All you have to have is the passion and drive and you'll succeed no matter what. There are so many successful actors that make a decent and comfortable living thta we dont even know of that are not huge stars. So by all means, go for your dreams and do what you love and one day you wont say "what if....."
Godd luck in all you do. I wouldnt change my two years at drama school for anything. I walked out of there not only an actor but so much more.

Life is a mysterious process. Some people from the outset know what they want to do and succeed at it fairly soon; others like possibly you, me, and tens of thousands of others struggle mightily to find our path in life. Best advice from my own struggles is to go toward whatever it is that interests you at any particular juncture in the road. I'm middle-age now, and my path has had many twists and turns in it. I started out wanting desperately to be a singer, and I followed that desire for many years; then my life turned in other directions, and I found myself writing, sculpting, and acting. As of today, I am working on a degree in Theatre Arts and a minor in Professional and Technical Writing, and I've never been happier. All my past experiences led me to a focused career path on which I feel certain I will find professional and personal fulfillment. It's not about getting rich and famous, but becoming a creative, alive, vital person. You will find those things that will make you uncompromisingly happy. I have a personal theory that if one dream dies, create a new one. It's worked for me. Good luck!

If your dream is to be an actor, you had better be preapred to face one very sobering reality: there are thousands upon thousands of talented performers out there who NEVER break through to stardom, or even to a moderate level of commercial success.
It's truly one of the toughest games there is, and even in a best-case scenario, you're letting yourself in for a struggle if you decide to play.
The best advice that any acting text or teacher could ever give you is this: if there's anything ELSE you could see yourself doing that would be fulfilling and rewarding to you, DO IT.
Having said that, if you simply MUST follow this path, then do it with joy and determination. If the PROCESS of becoming/being an actor -- and not merely the results -- is enough to keep you going, then you'll be fine. One of my old teachers once told me that the worst part of the life of a would-be actor is that, as you go along, you'll get JUST enough reinforcement (out in the "real world") to make you believe that the BIG BREAK is right around the corner.
As for whether the choice is making you "uncompromisingly happy"...well, you're the only judge of that. You have to be sensible about it, and establish reasonable goals for yourself.

there is nothing wrong in following your dreams, but they must be grounded in reality, those who dream pie in the sky and then went bust were never businessmen proper much less the acumen nor the sensibilities. some time those who make will have a creative person as a force, but will have the finacial one who dominates as the creative often suffer from reality detachment when it comes to money, this is why they often go bust, their failure to exam the market forces and adjust accordingly. many ideas or passion fail to launch because of this. it's a very personal and hard thing to admit you have failed at a business venture, especially when it encompasses you and is you sole identity ( big mistake there ), remeber there is life outside of your pursuit, be it what ever it may be, many forget this rule and have a tough time balancing work and life.

You follow your heart ... your inspiration. It doesn't matter if you are successful and famous, on the contrary ... it only matters that you are good at what you do and are happy doing it.
Even a guy pushing a broom can be happy if he's following his dreams. You'll know because he takes great pride in sweeping and does a better job than anyone else. He's just happy to do it and finds reason, purpose and meaning while he listens to his broom as he sweep the ground.

lf they truely followed there dreams they would be prosperous. lf they followed there ego they will fail. Trust in your self and every thing will work out, keep your mind on the end result. Don't try to controll the situation, let things flow and flow with it.

Sorry, sometimes following your dreams can lead to ruin, but if that's what matters to you go for it or can you try it after planning ahead by paying off your debts and saving money so if your headed to ruin you can change direction. some dreams are nightmares.
