Its traumatic enough for the little kid. OMG. People who don't have 2nd thoughts about running over an animal, a pet at that should be run over as well. Charge? I'd charge them with murder!

Why wasn't the animal on a leash? Why was it allowed to roam the street? Common sense says you should keep the animal contained or under control. Why wasn't this animal under some ones control? How big was it, is there the possibility that the driver didn't see it? And where was the five year old when this happened? Close to the street without parental supervision?
I would've ran over the dog rather than wreck my car, but I also would have stopped to check on it.
And people, if you don't control your animals, and they cause an accident, do you realize that you're responsible for the damage? At least where I live you are.
I feel sorry for the animal that got hit, but blame careless owners.
Not enough details to properly judge the situation.
If people say "Pets are like kids" then why was the "kid" allowed in the street?

It's sad that some people lack enough compassion and feeling of responsibility when they accidentally injure an animal. I saw a guy hit a cat. He slowed down, saw that it was running away, and drove off, thinking the cat would be ok ( I assume). I got out of my car and followed it, I could see it had a broken leg, but it ran in between some fencing and I couldn't get in to catch it. I felt so sorry for it, and wished I had been more quick to act.
I'm glad the people responsible for the incident your describing got caught and charged.

i don't think they should be charged, it's not like the person went out of there way to hit the dog, it was just a wrong place wrong time kind of situation. besides how many more dogs are there roaming in the neighborhood anyways? I love my dog don't get me wrong, but some people just take this animal stuff too seriously, if it was on purpose then it would be a totally different story.

almost all states have some sort of law that says if you hit anything you are supposed to stop. the charge for hit and run animal varies from state to state.
Personally I think its wrong to just leave, but many people can't handle taking responsibility.

The word of a child is never to be trusted, you're child in all likley hood is lieing to you.
Secondly if it did happen, killing a dog is not murder. It is probably no more then a tragic accident. You sound a bit stalkerish for following them. Accidently running over a pet is not worthy of jail time.

u did a marvellous job. there r few people who takes pain in other's affair. although i don't know about the rules exactly but there must be some rule to punish the culprit. don't change ur statement later, stick to ur stand and see what maximum punishment they gset from the authority, unless they are bought by the culprit.
