We have not caused our own demand skyrocketing actually the fact of the matter is the constant threat against oil fields and pipeing in the middle east. As well as inflation causing the price of oil to jump. Seeing as how oil supply is controlled by OPEC we will never be able to do anything about it even if we wanted to.
