The BOONDOCKs. The summary begins by saying that Granddad became the legal guardian to his two grandson's, but what happened to their parents? Does it have to do with Huey's anger?

I think Aaron McGruder leaves this question deliberately unanswered. We have to accept Huey and Riley "as is," without much understanding of where they come from -- just as their neighbors do -- and just as the boys themselves have to judge others without really knowing their stories.

Personally I think their parents most likely sent the boys to live with their grandfather in 'the boondocks' to protect them. Liveing in south chicago it would be easy for the pair to be mixed up in the crime and gang activity so sadly a part of urban life.

Their parents got into a huge race war with the Gang from Riverdale, you know....The Archies and all them. They were really big comic book rivals especially since the Archies got booted from the sunday funnies. It was a shame really. Betty decided to send Huey and riley to their Gramps house. She's always had a heart for the Kids.

It was their inheritance that Granddad used to buy their house in Hillcrest
