People say that they are controlling the rattlesnake population, which in fact they are decimating the population. They believe that rattlesnakes has no part in the ecosystem, which is entirely false. If they like it so much, why not just raise them for that purpose and then leave the wild ones alone. Rattlesnakes are both important as predators and prey. They help maintain balance in the rodent populations.

Rattlesnake round ups are disgusting!!! It's nothing but criminal slaughter, not part of the "culture" like some people claim. In some places the rattlesnake populations have been so overhunted that they actually IMPORT rattlesnakes specifically for the round up!!! It's inhumane, dangerous, fosters ignorance, and needs to be stopped.

it is so all the rattlesnake ranchers can round up their stock brand them, send some to be processed into rattlesnake steaks, other to be milked ......then they let the rest back out onto the range for next year so they can frolic and play in that rattlesnake way
decimate means kill one in 10

I've been to a number of these things with my ex (note I say "ex"-he loved them!), and have found them to be nothing more than crass commercialization with the point being to promote tourism for the local businesses and chambers of commerce. It wouldn't be quite so bad if they didn't make killing the things before they were cooked such a public spectacle. A great thing to take your kids to on a spring weekend-teach them zip about compassion and promote public cruelty. Good for the local economy, bad for the ecosystem.

I agree with you 100%. Peoples attitudes about snakes is like something out of the dark ages! People are just totally uneducated. I just tried to tell a woman on her yesterday (whose cat has been bringing back live non-venomous snakes to play with)to stop killing them...she chops them up with a hoe, and she says she does this often. I tried to explain to her the importance of snakes to the ecosystem and she said she is going to keep killing them because they are slimey and disgusting!! Can you believe that!!??? I think she's disgusting!
