No, there is not an iPod out that can allow you to record directly onto it. What he can do instead is record it with a microphone through the computer, then put that file on the iPod. My friends record messages for me, and i put their messages on my iPod in playlists with their names.

Or you can use a recorder, there are recorders out there that require small tapes, or digitally, so it saves into the recorder with some memory. To use the recorder, you just talk into it, and you can play them back.

Also, Apple has this adaptor that allows you to record directly into the iPod, but this is an additional accessory, so you have to buy it individually.

Any style of recorder could do no matter if it don't have headphones. the little a probability listen your voice without headphones so an similar is going for him. merely make some tapes and play them out loud. That way you could listen his voice at the same time the newborn will listen his voice.

iPods don't have this capability. But other mp3 players do. Try Creative mp3 players. I have this blue one with 512megs and the recording works just fine.
