Do the boys wear skirts? If not then yes it is sexist because they expect one gender to do something and not the other. That is sexism.

To force you to wear a skirt (with the only option of finding another job) is sexist. Didn't you know about this rule before being hired? If you did, you can't complain about it now.

Ask your trade union about the rules at your work.
They are able to negotiate or have perhaps already done it.
If a uniform goes together with your work, it does, but if it should be a shirt or not, that's the question?
In Göteborg in Sweden I saw bus drivers using a turban to the uniform, but that was Sweden. The trade unions in Europe are quite strong.

It is as sexist as making men wear ties.

Don't know much about UK's labor laws, but depending on the length of the skirt, you might just have a harassment lawsuit (different than plain old sexism).

(Too bad I can't pull that with the whole tie thing.)

Well if it's the same exact outfit that the company provides for you, then I don't think it's sexist. But if they're just telling you that you (or actually all the women) have to wear a skirt, then I think that's sexist.

In the USA they can NOT force your to wear a skirt. I am not certain about the UK. It IS sexist. Ask for the "male equivalent".

Just wear the skirt, unless you don't want to work there.

They are bad people. Of course it is their business so its not like they shouldn't have the right to require you to wear that which suits their preference. Quit being a childish little sh*t and just wear the damn uniform. Nobody is forcing you to work there.

I DON'T THINK THEY SHOULD FORCE OU TO WEAR IT AND IF THAT WAS THE POLICY OF THE COMPANY THEY SHOULD HAVE DISCLOSED THAT BEFORE YOU STARTED THE JOB. BUT I DON'T THINK THERE IS ANYTHING WRONG WITH WEARING A SKIRT TO WORK.
