First you must have a DVD-R drive to write file to DVD-R
If you want to burn your AVI files to DVD directly :
if you using windows xp internal burner :
Put the DVD-R in your DVD-R
copy and paste your files to DVD-R drive. If you ready, then right click on the DVD-R drive then choose write to disk or on explorer choose File then write files to disk.

You can use Nero ( http://www.nero.com )to burn a DVD disk. It the easy way to burn a DVD.
Choose new and then just drag and drop or copy paste your files then click the burn icon.

If you use Linux you can install K3B ( http://www.k3b.org/ )
I dont know how to burn a DVD on Mac.

If you want to save the AVI files on DVD so you can watch it to DVD player you need to encode the AVI to VOB. Use Nero to encode this.
