Who else is going to do it?

You can't legally ban any entity from owning another unless you can prove it is a monopoly. In the case of Windows it is almost a monopoly but unless you use a Mac what are you going to do. Do you really want to run something that does not interface with most things? The same is said of the energy companies. They are in the energy business. If they can get us out of oil and into Ethanol then great. Who else is capable of the distribution and all the laws that are known to these companies. I don't like it but it is a big undertaking and the people to do it is the people who already have the experience. If a new surgical technique came a long would you want the best surgeons doing it? Or would you want the guy at the quicky mart doing it?

We do need to start using ethanol, but since the oil companies have so much money and power, they will be involved in some way. It's not going to happen until the price of gas gets so high that Americans demand it, or it's cost effective for the oil companies to start using more ethanol in their fuel.

Why does the fact that a country is using money from its natural resources to help its citizens instead of enrich a handful of billionaires and millionaires bother people so much?

To think that oil companies are not playing a role in this fuel would be ignorant. Of course they should be allowed and encouraged to research and explore Ethanol possibilities. They have the infrastructure and the financing to do it. Ethanol will catch on big time when it becomes more efficient to mass produce.

the oil companies can own and opperate ethanol plants but is it for the best, no. think of how much more money they will make if people switch over to ethanol automobiles and how much more from the people who dont. they will eventually try to monopolize the oil and ethanol industries.
i do supportthe move towards making more automobiles ethanol friendly. it would help get us away from using gas so we could work to conserve it and work at not polluting as much.

yes i think they should be banned from owning it. Perhaps then normal people will still be able to afford it rather than the oil companies making excuse after excuse why they have to charge so much more for it.

Big oil knows that oil is expensive, and that it runs out. They will be happy to get a cheaper renewable substitute.
