Dispite everyone's thinking...the United States is a Republic. The founding fathers were sure to avoid a democracy when they were setting up the country. A Democracy allows votes on issues directly from the people, while a Republic allows people to elect officials to vote on issues.

a democracy is where absolutly every person votes on issues...a republic is where the people vote on people to represent them.

a federal republic has many states/provinces (ex. US)
