Most of webpages are coded in HTML, which involves lots of tags. For example: If I wanted to make a basic page that said "Hello World" it would contain tags similar to this:

Hello World

A simple site to look into would be www.w3schools.com

Save a web page as a file and view it with a text editor like word pad. It may help to rename the file with a .htm or .html extension to .txt and then view it.
