I read that they've canceled or postponed a lot of their concerts in the South. Have they offended their fan base past repair?

It certainly looks that way. The south is vastly a Red State region, with a lot of Bushophiles roaming around with their shotguns and bibles. I think it showed poor judgment, and a lack of patriotism to take an anti-Bush stance on foreign soil, but it is sad to see that a career was ended because of free speech. I bet the other two chicks are pissed...

I don't think that they shot themselves in the foot as much at the media and government are shooting at them for speaking their mind.
This is American for goodness sake. If it were men making statements against Bush or the government. They would downplay the whole thing.
The Dixie Chicks are talented individuals and have the "soap box" every now and then. They too have the right to express their feelings just like you and I about the way things are going on in our U.S. of A. NO! Not everybody is going to agree with it but for goodness sake, you don't have to hang people for it...hell this isn't the 60's! Or is it? Hmmmmmm.
I seen The Gatlin Brothers at a Mule Days concert in Bishop, CA and Larry Gatlin was putting down the Dixie Chicks right and left. Those rednecks were cheering and hootin'! I thought to myself. And this idiot calls himself and American.
We have rights...but I guess they're only good when the majority agrees on it.
I love you Dixie Chicks!!!!!
Larry Gatlin is a has been!!!!!

who cares! i give them credit for talking their mind about Bush. I'm in Austin and all the Bush supporters in the South really scare me! Hooray for the Dixie Chics!!!! Bush is a punk! You are shallow if you dont listen to the music you truly like for other reasons. These people dont know music. They hang out at Wal Mart on a Saturday night!!!!!

They are more than ever popular in Australia now. In Australia we don't care about issues such as Dixie Chicks have arisen in their songs.

the great thing about america is the freedom to criticize a system that is failing without punishment of death. they are not the only band to boycott the south this year based on high republican numbers. another great thing about america...you have the freedom to disagree with this answer.
