A perfect game is a game in which the starting pitcher pitches a minimum of 9 full innings, retiring a minimum of 27 batters with no batter reaching first base for any reason (be that by a hit, a walk, a hit batsmen, an error, or being thrown out trying to stretch a single into a double) and no runs scored. There have only been 17 perfect games in Major League Baseball history, with the 17th and most recent being pitched by Randy Johnson against the Atlanta Braves in 2004.

When a pitcher faces the minimum amount of batters and records all outs. That means he gives up no hits, no runs, no walks, no hit batters, nobody reaches on an error. In a 9 inning game it means 27 up and 27 down.

When a pitcher retires all 27 batters in a row. No one reaches first base for any reason. 27 up - 27 down!! Perfect game!

It depends. For a pitcher its getting the required # of batters faced without them getting on base. For a hitter, getting a hit every time at bat. For a fielder, its fielding the ball hit to cleanly and getting the batter out

It's the minimum amount of batters faced (27 for 9 inning game) with no hits allowed and no runners reaching base, i.e no walks, HBP
