Usually, the lower the socio-economic status of a family, the more traditional are the gender roles. This would mean that the male would be rather authoritarian (setting the rules of the house) and the female would be expected to do traditional "female" things (mainly limited to the household). Also, the children are more likely to be raised to be obedient to elders, especially family members, since these families are more "adult-oriented".
The higher the socio-economic class (middle class or upper class) the more the couple is egalitarian and share responsibilities, duties and mainly the financial burden. Because they are more likely to both be working and contributing the income, no one sex dominates, most of the time. These families are more "child-oriented" in the sense that they try to raise the child to stay child-like and "protect" them from the adult world during the childhood period. in fact, lower income children end up being independent at an earlier age.

When one works while the other stays home, there should be a mutual understanding between the couple that it isn't a ego-thing if roles were reversed. In most marriages, women tend to become the home-body while the man works. But in today's world, if a woman works and get a higher paying salary - the woman should never use it to belittle the man's earning capacity and yet respect his role as head of the family. But if the woman is the only earning body in the family while the man does nothing as in literally nothing to help out with the children and chores - I think she has every right to call his attention to it. Because women who do not work attend to children and chores and no working man can ever tell her to move out simply because she's not earning. Its his obligation and responsibility to provide for his family.

if the male is not the *breadwinner* he can have a drop in libido due to low self respect never mind his wife not respecting him for it .... in other cases where they are mutual dropouts it can be a strong bond
