I'M NOT AFRAID TO DIE.

Anyone who answers "no" to a question like this has never been at the threshold of death. The sheer self-preservation factor of trying to keep yourself alive is enough evidence that you want to keep on living. It is an inescapable instinct prevalent in every person. Even those who can never recover from a severe debilitation as they lie in a hospital bed indefinately will do whatever they can to stay alive. Of course, there are exceptions to every rule.
However, answering "no" to this question brings up other, albeit unrelated, questions. For some, when you have devoted yourself to something outside of yourself, that promises to "take care" of you when you die, then the possibility of dying is not so concerting.
The true fear of death lies in the fear of the unknown. When we die, it could be that all we THOUGHT might happen, does. Or it doesn't. That is the ambiguity of it - the unknown - that makes us not want to chose between being right or wrong about death. For religious people, there is a doctrine that is spelled out, educating them on the effects of death on their spirits, their souls, and even their bodies. If you have a satisfactory answer to a question, then you need not ask the question anymore. This is what religion does to help with the stressors of worrying about death or the after-life. If you have no such devotion, then the possibilities are infinite, and we go right back to the fear of the unknown.
So, everyone is afraid to die, but not everyone is afraid of what happens after you die. For some, it is a positive thing to die, since there are promises that supercede the great things that we have in this life.
When you come to grips with this question, then your life can take on a totally different meaning, a totally different perspective, and a totally different direction.

Judging by the state of the world, I'd say people are more afraid to really live that to die. Nobody is willing to stand up to fear or rejection, to pain or loss. But when you ask if someone is afraid to die, they say "no, it's going to happen sooner or later". To me those people have it wrong. I think we should hit life head on everyday to our fullest, and if we're afraid to die, it's only because we have so much to live for.

I'm afraid to die.

I am afraid of death. It's the act of death. The painful part. I fear lingering in pain. I have had pain so bad that I thought I was going to die. And I have been in surgury and had a reaction to the drugs which caused my lungs to not funtion properly and I hyperventilated and thought I was going to die. Both times were life altering. It makes you think. My biggest concern is for my children. I don't want them to live without me and I am not ready to leave them alone. So I fear for my children to be without me and for the pain of death. But with that being said. I do not fear what happens to me after I have passed. I believe there is more for me afterwards.

I wouldn't say I'm afraid to die, but I'm terrified of not being able to do everything I've always wanted to do and not being able to see the people I love anymore.

Dying is an inevitability of life and although most of us say we're not afraid to die, deep down inside I think we all are.
