If you're asking about the United States, it's probably because in U.S. politics, the conservative platform has married religion with capitalism. It is religion that really gets out the vote in the South, and with that vote, comes candidates who do the bidding of the capitalists. Just as voting for liberals means both supporting union rights and abortion, even though they don't really have anything to do with one another, pro-religion votes support capitalism even if it's against the interest of those doing the voting.

In Central and South America, it's different. Because of the influence of liberation theology, if you're religious, it generally means you're on the side of unions.

Unions did a great job in the Auto industry and the industry went south financially. The south has right to work laws and I understand why they don't want anything to do with them.

The laws governing companies are different. Most companies would rather shut down and never reopen the doors than to allow a union in...and a lot of them have.

I live in the north ~ Indiana. People hate unions here too because they fear strikes. You see, some people kinda like going to work and getting a paycheck everyday and don't want others to decide FOR THEM to go on strike!
