I agree but surprisingly, I think the people on here are much smarter than we give them credit for.
We get a lot of teens and even preteens. We can't hold them up to the same standard level as adults.
There are a lot of people in this world that were never taught good verbal or writing skills. That does not necessarily mean, that they don't posess a brilliant mind. It COULD be hidden, where we can't see it.
There are a lot of political clashes on this site as well as religeous battles but those have always existed and always will.
Those topics, are merely a matter of opinion.
Some of the greatest minds on the planet disagree on touchy issues.
The stupid questions? Yes, some people ARE just plain dumb but others do it for fun. I don't mind.
In fact I LOVE many of them because I love to laugh.
Laughter can only make us healthier, so knowing that, we ACTUALLY do need them.
I learn from all the people on here. For example YOU.
You make a very good point that needs to be addressed.
"What is happening to the human race? Are we getting dumber? I don't think so.
I don't think we have anything to worry about.
A hundred years ago most people believed, that a woman's menstral cycle was dictated by the phases of the moon.
I think we are all doing just fine.
Hurray for Yahoo Answers, for bringing the world to our feet.
Colorful. Don't you think?

amazingly insightful, jaw-droppingly funny, incredibly infuriating, pathetically depressing, very sharp, about average, lacking in common sense, vincibly ignorant, misinformed, blissfully clueless, or dumber than a garden slug?
I'm sure I've been all of the above at some point.

I have found that the stupider a question is, the more answers it gets. When I ask insightful or intelligent questions, I get no answers and end up taking them off and blowing the points.
I think there's still a lot of kids on here just screwing around. Saying "I don't know" should be a violation unless it's followed up with some intelligent guesses or offers of resources.
Also the stuff that goes on in the areas set aside for religion get REALLY ugly. I hardly go there anymore.

I wouldn't use Yahoo Answers to prove or disprove the underlying intelligence or stupidity of a group of people in general. Many here answer questions on the fly, usually without careful consideration. The growth of fast communications capability and instant gratification have just allowed folks to type out more nonsense that is seen by more people before the brain kicks in with sober reflection. And there are a lot of users on Yahoo Answers who have completely different motives than enlightenment...Cheers!

I think it's sad that you can't ask a question without getting about 20 answers along the lines of 'dunno but thanks for the 2 points'.
Also, every time I sign in I see the same rubbish, 100's of 'questions' saying 'God Sucks' or 'Christianity sucks', I thought the novelty of this would have worn off by now but apparently not.
What I also find amazing the is stuff Yahoo let people away with, I've seen incredibly racist questions or crap about abusing kids, these questions remain here but when someone asks 'do you like my avatar' they get reported for abuse.
So, yes, I think we have a long way to go - both the people that are using Yahoo and the moderators of the site.

There are quite a few clever and funny people on here...
But in some cases I'm amazed at the stupidity, or the inability to have common sense.
It really does depress me.
On the other hand, it makes me feel smarter. And it's like watching a train wreck at times, so, I keep coming back. XD

If you get rid of the religious fanatics, the 10-14 year olds, the extremists, the " use a dirty word for shockers", oh, and the garden slugs,....there are about a dozen common sense people on here.

I would have never believed that there are so many people who staunchly defend their religious beliefs, even to the point of drawing people into arguments just for their own delight.
But since there is no accountability here, anything goes, and may not be an accurate barometer of the intelligence therein.

I think that judging the average intelligence of the human race based on statistics from Yahoo! Answers is a load of crap. But I think people use this service without consulting their brain first. People seem different depending on who they are compared to.

For the most part, I would say you are correct, there is a small percentage of very intelligent people on here. However the sample is skewed slightly by intelligent people who post nonsense purposely in order to stir up the masses.
