Hair all over your body is left over from when we were REALLY hairy, like primates and the hair was used to keep us warm, but as we evolved and we wore clothing and adapted our environment to fit us, our hair started thinning and lessening. We have more hair on our head than other places because you lose 40% of your heat or something crazy out of the top of your head, so it's still needed to keep us warm up there, and because ancient people probably didn't typically wear hats (as clothing's original function was quite possibly not just to keep warm), our heads are more directly exposed to sunlight than other body parts and our heads are already so heavy that the skin didn't become thicker and develop fat pockets and muscles up there to protect us from too much sun exposure to our skin and sunburn, etc. I don't know all of this from researches, but this is what I would think the reasons would be, at least partly. Also though, our bodies are still programmed to use our hair like cats and dogs to stick out to make us appear bigger sometimes too.

Hair is your endocrine system in action. In genetic terms, Neanderthal Man's experiences in the wild (actually going back to Austropilicus Borsai) causes his DNA to have strand mutations in order to increase hair production to act as an insulator or coat against the climatic changes. Hair also makes it more difficult to get stung by things, but smaller things like mites and lice like it because they can live on the strands and plant their eggs at the base of the follicle so that as the hair grows out the eggs eventually rise higher and by the time they hatch they are at the top of the follicle. But generally speaking, hair is good. Except if you live in Phoenix or the Mojave Desert. Indigenous peoples who have a lot of hair come from climates that have somewhat colder
winters. But with modern technology and people relocating all over the globe, in most cases hair is useless-if you live in warmer climates. Hair removal should be done only after you thoroughly cleanse and disinfect the body, because if you don't, and bacteria lives on the hair and you remove the hair by pulling it out, the bacteria can enter into the newly created pocket where the open hole once held a follicle. This is why a lot of people who pull their nosehairs actually end up with nose infections. Not bad, huh?

Hair used to be used to keep you warm but since we are now in the 21st century and have had clothes we dont need the hairs warmth so in reality it is really pointless.

It is actually like a heat sink on an electronic device. It insulates the skin under it and keeps it cooler.Since humans are better able to control their environments the need for hair will lessen and eventually we will lose it altogether.

According to my step son, the sole purpose of hair is to cover your lack of common sense scars and it's also a "all terrain, easy to clean, stain resistant, head covering of his choice."
Without it, he would be his Father
