Don't wait till then. Maintain a committment to the relationship, get an agreement to talk often, and buy a dog. Not a chihauha, a dog.
And evaluate the time that you spend now with that person, imagine how much free time you will have when he/she is gone, and seek something to do for that amount of time. The community services of your city or town will offer a plethora of different courses to stimulate your senses. Pottery, computers, travel, psychology, art. Then, when you do see this person, make the time count (for you and for them) so that they will value the experience and look forward to the next encounter. Oh....and don't give advice unless asked for it. Otherwise, you will find they think you are a control freak, when infact you are just having trouble adjusting to the new scenario.
