I reckon it's the other way round. For some strange reason the "earthlings" seem to need some Creator God, and they're bound , like Sisyphus, to the wheel of argument about which or what is the ultimate one. It saves them taking responsibility for their lives and what they do, and provides answers to the few questions they ask, saving them from looking for the real questions. (As my dear dead Dad used to say, any fool can come up with an answer, but it takes a wise person to see the real question. And I'd add that when you do the answer is often obvious enough)

Nature.

Why do so many humans insist on believing that they were "created?" What is so unthinkably bad about the notion that we merely evolved from some self-replicating molecules? Why must we have some "purpose" given to us by a higher being? What makes us think we're so special, worthy of being singled out for attention by some deity beyond our comprehension? We are what we are, and THAT'S what makes us special. Our purpose is whatever we choose it to be. We don't need gods in order to have purpose, nor to explain the universe or our origins. Our existence is good enough, why bog it down with mystical thinking?

I am a catholic.. In our Bible, God said that "I AM WHAT I AM". It was when God gave Moses the ten commandments, and that was the only (or maybe not only) time God said about his being (God said that after Moses asked God who He was). In Latin (I'm not pretty sure or is it the other way around), removing the vowels, as what God exactly said, it's spelled "YHWH". Which eventually spoken as "YAHWEH". So, if you're asking who, and you're not considering the fact that one-who-might-answer-question's Religion is, then I say it's Yahweh. But in other Religion, it may be Allah, or Buddha, perhaps. Anyway, there is only one God, whatever His name is, it's still Him.

My theory is there is only one God but people just have different terms (I suggest you read brittle on the definition of terms to understand this).
