What are your opinions on sword collecting?

Im looking for opinions on sword, knife, and weapon collecting. From collectors to people that havent ever thought about it.

i have several, most are display pieces but some are functional.
don't buy just any old sword, buy blades that appeal to you. I have several replicas of fantasy swords and a few functional fencing swords.
they don't have to be expensive, unless you plan on reselling them someday.
I got some of mine for about 20 bucks.

Well im more of a chest set collector my self but i know people who have sword collections. They can range from very expencive if your going for old or complete collections of a certain era. You can do a pretty inexpensive round-about collection if thats what ur going for.

Make sure you decide early on if you are going 100% authentic or good replica or imitation. It realy depends on ur taste.

Research before u buy anything. Make sure you hit antique shops and e bay.

PS only do it if u are going to be into swords in the future...since many of them can be eye-of the-beholder items u may not be able to get good $ for them if u decide to give collecting up.(As in contrary to DVD, sports cards...)

my opinion? depends on whether you're going cheap replica or quality. the first is tacky, but the later is expensive.

start small so you can acquire several nice pieces. one sword does not a collection make. keep your eyes out for a good deal on your showpiece. a lot of these gun show include knives. visit them. get into trade. before long you'll have the start of a nice collection. think about making some of your own.
