I received 4 or 5 calls before this last primary and I got a bunch of calls before the last election from all the candidates and their friends... ALL RECORDED! Not one live appeal in the bunch.

When did politics devolve into telemarketing during my dinner time?

Because telemarketers are selling you something you don't need and will probably cause you grief..... politicians are going to do that to you anyway.

As defined legally, political speech is not the same as commercial speech. Even if political speech uses the same techniques and forms as commercial speech (such as telemarketers, direct mail, email, etc.), the First Amendment of the US Constitution says anything goes as long as it is considered political speech. Therefore, you can be spammed indefinitely by and for politicians but not for goods and services.

Political calling is expempted from the DNC laws. So are charitable organizations. As is anyone you have a business relationship with, i.e. you bought from them at any time in the past.

You are right on. I love it when I get a message on my machine and the recorded message is almost over by the time the machine picks up. Stupid waste of money!
