I used to shop at hot topic only and was basically a wannabr scene kid. Now I do like Abercrombie for some stuff, so I guess I've been at both ends of the spectrum. I dont buy everything abercrombie because it is kinda expensive and I usually refuse to buy anything with the huge logo just because it doesn't look nice in my opinion.
I also dont understand what people are saying about the sizes- I wear a 2 usually, and sometimes a 4 depending on the store or brand, and at abercrombie the 2 fits perfectly, better than some other stores even.

Some people like A & F, some people don't. I don't really have a personal opinion on this one, but here are some reasons why people hate Abercrombie & Finch. Hope this helps;
1. They don't sell any clothing whatsoever for larger women. They don't offer a size above 10 in women's pants, despite offering larger clothes for men. The Abercrombie and Finch CEO, Mike Jeffries says he 'doesn't want larger people shopping in his store, he wants thin and beautiful people'.
2. Apparently they made an employee with a prosthetic limb and other non-white and supposedly 'unnatractive' people work in the storeroom away from customers.
3. Instead of calling employee cashiers or store associates, they call them models. Actually, they are just teenagers dressed up in expensive looking clothes.
4. CEO, Mark Jeffries said he only want 'good-looking' people wearing his clothes. He confessed in an interview his brand was based upon sex appeal. 'It's almost everything. That's why we hire good-looking people in our stores. Because good-looking people attract other good-looking people, and we want to market to cool, good-looking people. We don't market to anyone other than that,' Jeffries said.
5. Abercrombie made a shirt insulting Taylor Swift. The shirt read "more boyfriends than t.s.".
6. The stores smell like cologne, everywhere. A worker said that the whole store was required to be spritzed every hour. Imagine all those toxic chemicals floating around?
7. The ads have been claimed as soft-core porn by family groups. They are quite inappropriate and yet are still shown on national television.
8. Abercrombie sold shirts offending customers by means of racism. The shirts shown included pictures of Asian stereotypes, including slanted eyes and cone-shaped hats.
9. Abercrombie and Finch sold children's bikinis which were considered 'too sexy' including the sales of push-up bikinis for children as young as 8.
10. I'm sure there are many other reasons, though these are the more outstanding ones.
I hope this information helped! Nothing against A & F!

Let it be known that I am impartial.
1) Calling A&F racial is ignorant. The co. needs to sell what the general public will buy. Obviously, caucasians are prevalent. It is only logical that the models are the same race.
2) Originality is in the beholder. The polo shirt and the destroyed jeans are common throughout society. The brand eschews the fashion sense. A regular shirt and ripped jeans do not contribute to fashion. Fashion has to have that eclectic sense of sophistication and class. Look at the runways. There is an amalgam of different textures and patterns. Abercrombie is broad and used for casual wear.
3) Once again, most teenagers like loud music (the general public).
4) Abercrombie is not an established designer brand. For the kind of material it sells, it is expensive. It doesn't mean someone is poor if they don't buy the clothes.
I think the clothes at Wal Mart and Kohls are expensive even though I sport brands like Ralph Lauren, To the Max, BCBG, Kenneth Cole, and DKNY City.
One must shop wisely.
There is no reason to hate the store, but everyone has their own opinion. You can't convert everyone into loving the store in one night. If you want someone to love the store, use logical reasoning. Don't use the accusative method.
Lastly, people hate the store because they hate the people who sport the goods. Perhaps if the people didn't use that sense of superiority, the public would take another look.
Dressing in the abercrombie/hollister style does not mean one looks great.
**By the way, A&F does not give off the aura of prep. Prep is Lacoste and Ralph Lauren.

It's racist: The staff is all caucasian at the A&F in my nearest mall. My friend, who is black, tried to get a job there and she was turned down. Another time, I was shopping there with her (because she really wanted to go badly), and the staff was noticeably keeping an eye on her. Also, A&F had a line of t-shirts a few years ago that were completely disrespectful to Asians. I know you'd probably say that it was all in good humor and that people should lighten up, but then again, you've never had to be faced with blatent racism ever. If they came up with tshirts that somehow offended you, you would protest also.
It's for clones and unoriginal people: Everyone I go to school with is the same: bleached blonde hair, low rise Hollister jeans, and a simple blue tshirt with Abercrombie written in huge letters across the front. The only reason they wear that uniform every day is because they want to look cool. However, if they made some of their own clotes or shopped at independently owned stores, they would be a lot more respectable and therefore, cooler. You could look exactly the same, but not with supporting a huge company that only raises money for some guy in an office. If the an equal amount of money that Abercrombie earned this year went to Katrina relief, perhaps the rebuilding of New Orleans would be further along. But instead, the guy who owns the buisness is spending all of that money on his own crap.
The music is too loud, it's too dark, etc..: Who wouldn't rather be in a store with nice, relaxing music and enough lighting to see what they're buying? It's just a minor annoyance.
It's too expensive: There is no reason for the clothes to be that expensive, since they use sweatshop labor. They basically want you to believe that their product is simply better than any other clothing shop. Most people are under the assumption that if it costs more, then it must be better quality.
And I must add: Abercrombie owns Hot Topic.

Because people like to look different and everyone you see on the streets is wearing A&F. Some of their clothing is nice but a lot is just like any other. You can find clothing like that anywhere for a much cheaper price. It puts a label on you. I think when people wear nothing but one brand, thats is incredibly unfashionable.

Abercrombie and FItch IS racist, and they only make clothes for skinny people. I'm not even that fat, but once I went to the kids' store and tried on a cami, like what? I though I was a medium or maybe even a large, but noooo, I ended up barely fitting into an X-tra large. That just pisses me off because I'm not even that big, and the store is trying to make me think I'm fat or something. I agree with Kristen, she said pretty much everything. Good for her.
And Abercrombie's store environment has too much music and it's so dark in there. Plus, I see all these other rich white kids picking things out and it makes me feel like I'm poor or something, but I'm not. In reality I AM able to afford those clothes, but my parents don't like me shopping there because the material is not even THAT good; people just buy it for the brand. The only reason I feel poor in there is because the rich kids look much RICHER than I do, and it makes me feel uncomfortable.
And atop all that, I'm Asian, so it feels like they're watching me or something, just because I don't look skinny NOR white. The only time I ever saw an Asian working there was once, and SHE was skinny too. I guess that was the only reason why they accepted her.
And yes, it is unoriginal. Everywhere I go, I see people wearing it, and it makes me think, why don't they have their own style? It's annoying and it also makes other people who can't afford it look poor. I don't think people who shop there understand how hard some people must work to pay for everything. They probably don't even understand how hard THEIR parents must work to earn money.
It might be cheap compared to designer clothes, but still, everything in the world is already expensive enough, why do they have to add more complications? Abercrombie is an expensive store, but people still shop there because of the popular brand.
I was about to buy a cami there, but then I realized it is too expensive and not worth it. I mean, one cami for $25?! I went to Papaya instead and found similiar cami for half the price. It looked even better too, but just because it didn't have the moose logo, rich people think it's not good enough for them.
I don't understand, why do people have to prove they are better than others by the clothes they wear?

if you have blonde hair this will naturally get bleached by the particular sun in the summer. There had been this guy in my class who else had golden blonde hair that had been a medium brown near the base. When he came back to school after summer vacation, it was nearly platinum blonde!

Exactly why is everyone with blond, why can't you just have jet black curly hair with some blonde or blonde hair with some jet black hair. Today you don't have to choose.

I love a&f and HCo too and I could really care less if other people dont like that I do or not. And no one else should either. the people who work at both stores are actually really friendly, when hollister opened at the local mall, a lot of the workers wanted to help me out, even if i wasnt looking my best. i dont know why they would be racist. I know whites, black, and asains that wear a&f so its not just a "white people" thing. The clothes there are really comfortable so idk why everyone is saying that they are crappy. I think that the store looks cool dark and with loud music. No one wants to be blinded because its so bright, do they? And compared to the real prep stores a&f is not expensive. It may be compared to Old Navy and Wal-Mart. And a&f isnt real prep. Stores like RL and lacoste are. Thats why they have the 'casual luxury' on their website. It isnt suppose to be preppy.
