Where would you go if you had to go to Houston?

It depends on the personal interests.

-If I liked art I would visit the Museum of Fine Arts or the Menil Museum.
-If i liked nature and animals I'd go to the Houston Zoo, the Lila Cockrell Butterfly Exhibit and the Museum of Natural Science.
-If I like plays, opera, or the symphony I'd check to see what's going on downtown in the theater district;
-If I liked live music and concerts I'd see who was playing at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion or the Verizon Wireless Theater or any of the many local venues like McGonigel's Mucky Duck.
-If I liked sports and depending on what season it was I'd check to see if the Astros, Rockets, or Texans were playing home games.
-If I just wanted to find good food I wouldn't have to travel too far. I'd go to the Montrose area, Downtown, or the Galleria area and close my eyes and point. They all have a multitude of excellent restaurants featuring different cuisine (ethnic and just plain American food).

Since I live in Houston I don't have to go to Houston. There's plenty to choose from for a visitor.

There really is alot to do in Houston .. It just depends on what you are in to. Downtown has some good restaurants, bars, etc.., Astros games are worth catching, The Galleria area is nice with some good places to eat and shop, there are some good museums (arts, sciences), the Houston zoo is nice, Galveston has a pretty cool atmosphere, Schlitterbaun opened a water park in Galveston next to Moody Gardens, The Woodlands area is nice, and there are usually alot of good concerts to go to.

there is nothing wrong with Houston. I was born here and I have lived a lot of places ,and I prefer it here it southeast Texas. I have lived in California, Arkansas, Minnesota, and various other places. I always ended up back here.
There is no such thing as a safe city, town, or anyplace. Houston is no worse or better than any other large city. But, if you are moving here and can afford it, the Woodlands, Kingwood, Humble, or other suburbs like that are very nice, but can be pricey.
There's also the downtown renovations of gorgeous lofts and other sky-rise homes.

Tonight is Thursday, so Skybar is good. I don't know what is going on this weekend but look at the Houston Press newspaper that is at all the restaurants and such for events and club information.
