funny thing about this.
no, its not. But there is a really unique technicality.
Hospitals (not neccesarily doctors) can possess marijuana that has been set aside by the state for medicinal purposes. and they can legally prescribe it if they are practicing in certain states. And the state legally protects your right to smoke it if you are a prescribed patient.
now here is where it gets complicated. Drug laws are federal, not state. The US government still lists all marijuana, medicinal or not, as illegal (i dont think this has changed in the last year when i researched this situation). Federal law trumps state law, so it is illegal. The federal government begrudgingly turns a blind eye to these states which have legalized it, despite technically not having the authority to legalize it. Occasionally the feds will sweep by and mass confiscate the medicinal marijuana from the hospital, but no court ever upholds the federal side of it, and lets the state's victims go, realizing that the fed is being a real pain in the *** just to show authority.
in short, you will not have legal problems if you are in the right state and it is prescribed. But TECHNICALLY it is totally illegal, but its one of those things that is let slip for now.

In eleven states out of the 50 states (of U.S), it is legal by State Law. However, Federal Law doesn't allow marajuana even though it is used for medical purposes.

NO. THC extracted from that 'weed that has no business growing on God's green Earth'...is only available as a "medication" to 'alleviate the pain of having one's death predetermined' or, so far as I understand... Glaucoma (sp?)
Is 'mind expansion' on the agenda for medical principality? Is it legal to buy a bottle of 100 proof Vodka for medical purpose? Duh.
Maybe it was one of God's mistakes. Maybe the early 30's set the golden rule for the rest of eternity: Pot has an effect on the human CNS that is variable from person to person and from plant to plant, making a schedule of its potency practically impossible. the fact that it affects .. perception .. is enough to categorize the degree of punishment humans deserve for eating, or otherwise ingesting the leaves or flowering buds of the plant.

but, NO, pot's illegal... even if your doctor tries to push that inordinate contraband on you via perscription.
Ha Ha! fooled you! fooled me! pot makes people not vote. that's why. yup.
pot is free. nobody exchanges money for that....
...
...that's like... paying for water! hah! could you imagine making money off of selling Water?!?
...wait, nevermind... what about sand? how about I shut the hell up?

Doctor permission is required.
Example:
You can't buy marijuana from a thug, get caught, and said it was for medical purposes.
