The Shining or Poltergeist?
maybe neither are scary but i am staying up all night so i want to watch one... which is more scary?

The Shining is def. scarier. The extreme breakdown of Jack's character and the halucinations of the past, and the past taking over his body and soul, are scary things to encounter... especially given the events and occurences that are about to become true and real once again!
poltergeist had 2 scary scenes... other than that its a scary movie for kids!

Poltergeist is much scarier. The Shining is an excellent movie though..great story, and scary in it's own right.

OMG - Poltergeist - hands down!!! That was one of the scariest films I ever saw, truly. The Omen, too - if you can get both the 76 version & the 2006 version, wow, they were both great. But Poltergeist & Poltergeist 2 were truly awesome & scary as hell. Make up some popcorn, get under the covers & prepare for a scare!!!!! Enjoy!!!!

tough call there....each is scary for very different reasons. Just depends on the scare mood you are in lol
If you like ghosties....go for Poltergeist. But telling ya, the Shining is just downright creepy...things will go bump in the night and freak ya right out :D

The Shining is believable. Poltergeist is only amusing.

I have fallen asleep in the Shining everytime I have watched it...I have yet to get through the whole movie. Poltergeist is nice and creepy!

The Poltergeist- I watched it and didnt go bed for 2 days straight, thats 48 hours. The Clown scared the crap out of me.

The Shining definitely. It's so atmospheric and shot in a way that will make you feel very unnerved. Polgergeist is scary in a different way, but it's not a classic like The Shining. HTH.

Poltergeist...because it's more demonic I think in the storyline.
