I recommand to use 'The windows memory diagnostic'
The Windows Memory Diagnostic tests the Random Access Memory (RAM) on your computer for errors.
The diagnostic includes a comprehensive set of memory tests. If you are experiencing problems while running Windows, you can use the diagnostic to determine whether the problems are caused by failing hardware, such as RAM or the memory system of your motherboard.
Windows Memory Diagnostic is designed to be easy and fast. On most configurations, you can download the diagnostic, read the documentation, run the test and complete the first test pass in less than 30 minutes.
To run Windows Memory Diagnostic, you must reboot your computer with the disk or CD-ROM on which you installed Windows Memory Diagnostic in the drive.
After the reboot, Windows Memory Diagnostic will load and its interface will appear.
After loading, the first test pass will begin, using the default standard test suite, and continue until complete, unless Windows Memory Diagnostic is either paused or exited.
Once the first test pass is complete, Windows Memory Diagnostic will begin a second test pass using the same settings as before.
Windows Memory Diagnostic will continue to run test passes until you exit.
It is highly recommanded if your computer run slow.

Your computer is WAY too slow and old to be running ANY software or hardware that has come out in the last 7 years. If you want to restore it to its original factory state format your system drive and reinstall with Windows 98. Assuming all your hardware is ok (NOT a safe assumption) then you may be able to get some use out of it. Don't go trying to install much software, though.

um, well with the numbers you gave, the sounds of it, your computer sucks. You probably need a better CPU and probably more RAM. The hard drive SPACE has nothing to do with the speed, or atleast very little. what you could do however is try to run a defrag for a small boost in hard-drive performance.

Uhhhhh....I'm guessing that since you have 2 HD's with a TOTAL of only 4gigs, your system is REALLY old...You might want to consider getting a new one....
If you can't afford that, my second guess is that you're running either 98 or WinME...One thing you might try is running your VIRTUAL MEMORY off your D drive...Virtual memory uses the free space on your hard drive(s) to run your programs (sort of ) in the background (that's why it's called virtual memory)...The ideal amount of "free virtual memory" is around 15-25% of your primary (C) drive....you can use your D drive to run your virtual memory, and I would recommend it since that is where you have the most amount of free space.

Go to start, programs, accessories, system tools and disc clean up. Let it run it's duty and then let it compress and clean up the old files that it feels it needs to.
Then
Go to start, programs, accessories, system tools and disc defrag and let it defrag.
This should be done at least once a month if not more often.
You should think about removing some of the programs that you don't use, that would help.
Have fun....

You need to have more space on your system partition where you install your windows. If C is your sys partition, then free it up by moving document files to drive D
Use AVG antivirus cause AVG loads a lot faster then Norton and use a lot lesser memory
Defrag your drive
Reduce unnecessarly start up application
Uninstall unnecessarly programme

Wow, 227 MB is not a lot of space. Better clear some junk.
You can try using CCleaner (Crapcleaner) to clear useless junk.

Or try this 15 minute tune up.

Hi there,
Cleaning the register is a good way of improving the performances of your pc and eliminate malwares and trojans. A program I trust is CCleaner http://bitly.com/UrAMvN
It's a very good program and easy to use.

if the hard drives are the same manufacturer and have the same stats such as seek time and rpms you can buy a cheap raid card and stripe them in raid 0, this should nearly but not quite double the speed at which the hard drives respond.
