I was running across an icy sidewalk toward an intersection, and one of my shoes came off and flew into the street. Just at that moment, a guy drove up in a car and covered the shoe. So I had to pound on the car window of a total stranger, and ask him not to move until I retrieved my shoe, because I was afraid he would roll over it. For some reason, this was one of the most emnbarrassing moments of my life that I can remember. There were probably more embarrassing moments, but I blocked them out.

Funny? I can laugh now. Years ago my dear Gwen and I had decided that we would live together. A the office where we worked we preferred not to use the lunch room as it was usually nearly full of smoke so we dined at a nearby cafe or in the park in fine weather. I am diabetic and in those days stayed rather too close to zero BGL. Coming back to work we heard one catty minx exclaim"Oh look at the SPINSTERS. Couldn't get a man to save themselves!" I must lave lost control for a moment as the next thing I recall was being helped to drink a cup of very sweet coffee. Gwen, who was the most serene person I ever met., just lifted an eyebrow and asked "Well fellow spinster, are we as one".
No reply was needed and this is one of my very fond memories.
Best wishes, Rose P.
