Well you want a tattoo that is going to represent YOU...this is going to be permanent, so choose wisely...Names aren't so wise because you might regret it later. Religious symbols, Asian characters, and floral designs all seem to be classic.
The tattoo can pretty much be placed anywhere. Upper groin, lower back, and back of the shoulder are all interesting places for females. Just remember on how discrete you want the tattoo to be!
After care is very important. A new tattoo is like an open wound, so it should be taken care of. Rinse gently with a mild soap then apply a small amount of moisturizing cream (Aveeno...etc). Sun exposure and swimming should be kept to a minimum for about 2 weeks.
Ask the artist how long they have been tattooing, is their equipment state inspected, are the instruments sterile, needles used once? Also watch to see if they use gloves and that the work area is clean. Check the artists portfolio and look for clean lines, great shading, accurate designs. Don't be afraid to ask, because if you don't feel comfortable with him/her, then that's a sign to walk right out the door!
Good luck!

Put it anywhere BUT on your breast, ankle, or lower back. After it's all healed, make sure and wear sunscreen or keep it covered outside. I've heard that you shouldn't put polysporin or neosporin on new tattoos because it promotes scabbing...not good. Phone your health board and ask for a recommendation of a parlor, you can also tell when you visit (before you get tattooed) if a place is skeezy or not. Visit a few artist and look at their books of work and designs they've done. Good luck!! Tattoos are fun.

Childrens names on the left back shoulder blade area, Melanie on the right back shoulder blade. Old English lettering is a nice style surrounded (with room for addition on the left) with old English ivy and or any other vegetation that appeals to you. The Tatt people will draw something up special just with this rudimentary idea to start with, a good tatt parlor is usually pretty creative with just an idea of what you want.

I don't have any tattoos, but I recommend designing your own, then it will truly be unique. If you have someone else design it, it is theirs not yours. That's the point of being unique, making it yours.
The questions on cleaning can best be answered by the tattoo artist you choose.
Edit: Or did you mean you already had a design in mind? Sorry, I think I misunderstood. Do you have any artist friends? Maybe they could help. Or a tattoo artist could possibly sketch something for you.

Get a tattoo 'artist', one who can do more than just follow patterns.
For a woman, good places for a tattoo are: the breastplate,
the shoulder blade area and the upper rump.
CARE: For a full 3 weeks after, no direct water, sun, or tight clothing that could rub and irritate the artwork. Use the A&D
ointment liberally for at least 2 weeks: the top is healed in a week
but under the skin takes a FULL 3 weeks. Ask the tattooist to show you how he 'sterilizes' his needles and tools; if he is a
sloppy worker, I would reconsider my selection of shop.

my best advice...look at yourself in 10 years, and see if your tattoo really goes with the setting...like don't go off and get one with your fav. singer's name.. try something u won't be embarrassed showing to your mom... good luck!

Firstly do some research on tatoo via internet. Get something that you like and wont ever regret. you could start with something small in an area that can be covered by clothes. Choose a design that u love or means something to you or create your own. Since a tat can go anywhere i suggest you do one on your hip or over your butt for low rise jeans. Cover your tat immediately after getting it. Always wash hands before touchin tattoo and wash with antibacterial soap and use ointment that tat artist recommends for healing. When washing the tattoo wash gently and use paper towels to dry off. Never rub tat when drying but pat dry so it doesnt smudge. And keep it out of the sun.
Ask if he uses an autoclave, how often he changes his needles, to see photos of his work and if he is vacinnated for hepatitis B. Make sure he wears gloves.
